The short tales " Harrison Bergeron”, simply by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., and " Ashes for the Wind”, by simply Hernando Tellez, the atrocities of a dictatorship government are displayed as part of the central external conflict. Whether or not the story can be conveyed through more serious, non-fiction-like means, including the sad experience of a struggling family in Colombia, in " Ashes for the Wind”, or maybe a more extravagant counterpart, in " Harrison Bergeron”, a corrupt federal government ultimately causes more challenges to come up. Setting aside benefits differences in the characters, plan, and setting, we see an important element in the conflict of both testimonies – the protagonist is unaffected by the government, and must face the effects.

The 2 short tales possess vague similarities, since both experts put a great emphasis on their very own negative thoughts about totalitarianism. Equally protagonists Juan Martinez and Harrison Bergeron defy the federal government in some way, and later are reprimanded for their works. In " Ashes for the Wind”, Juan is usually threatened to leave his home for voting against the current government at the previous election. Juan justifies himself while using fact that there was " not any hard feelings” in voting against them, and " there often had to be a victor and a loser”, underestimating the government's power. (Pg. 16) Rather, Juan would rather be slain that keep his home, showing hesitation that the government will actually remove them. In " Harrison Bergeron”, Harrison also underestimates the power of the federal government, and looks publicly stating that having been " the Emperor” and " a greater ruler than any gentleman who ever lived”. (Pg. 179) He then takings to party with no consider of the government's powers at all. In the end, Harrison suffers pertaining to his ignorance, when a federal government official, " Diana Celestial body overhead Glampers, the Handicapper General” intruded all their dance and killed him and his spouse " before they strike the floor” (Pg. 181). In a comparable case, the us government kills Juan for his stubbornness in not abiding to their demands....
