This kind of paper is going to compare the Psychodynamic Theory and the Humanistic Theory. A description of each theory and its leading theorist may help in showing that both their particular differences and similarities. Psychodynamic Theory, produced by Sigmund Freud in the 1900s, believes that many human habit stems from all their unconscious. That personality originates from beliefs, recollections, feelings, and instincts that the individual is definitely not aware of (Feldman, 2010). According, to Freud the personality consist of three key components; the Id, Spirit, and Superego. The Identification is the organic inborn part with sole goal is to lessen tension caused by aggression and irrational behavioral instinct, operating based on the pleasure theory (Feldman, 2010). Ego behaving as a buffer between the Identification and the outdoors world, the Ego is developed shortly after birth and strives to balance the desires from the Id. The Ego works according to the fact principle, producing decisions permitting problem solving in a higher level compared to the Id is capable of (Feldman, 2010). As the Superego is definitely part of the mind representing right from wrong in society, therefore being passed down by one's parents, and teachers, the Superego will keep one via improper behavior by triggering one to experience guilty. Freud suggest that personality development has several distinct stages; Dental (birth – 18 months), Anal (18 months – 3 years), Phallic (3-6 years), Dormancy (6 years to adolescence), and Penile (adolescence to adulthood) (Feldman, 2010). One other huge part of Freud's theory is the immunity process which include: Repression, Regression, Displacement, Rationalization, Refusal, Projection, Sublimation, and Reaction formation. These kinds of defense mechanisms are accustomed to cope with life's anxieties.
